Collect iMessage, WhatsApp and Signal from a custodian’s phone with no device shipped and no examiner on site. Targeted Pro delivers only what the matter needs.
RAMSEY, NJ, UNITED STATES, November 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — MARA Forensics today launched its patent-pending remote mobile evidence collection platform for law firms, corporate investigation teams and forensic and eDiscovery service providers. With MARA, legal teams collect exactly what a matter needs from a custodian’s iPhone or Android phone, wherever the custodian is, and receive it with a verifiable chain of custody. With the launch, MARA also debuts Targeted Pro, which lets the custodian confirm the specific relevant conversations before anything leaves their computer. Targeted Pro is available today on Windows for iPhone and Android custodians, with Mac coming soon.
MARA was founded by Jeremy Horowitz, a former Big Four digital forensics professional and former New Jersey cybercrime detective who specialized in digital forensics. He built MARA after years of seeing the same problem from both sides: phones hold the evidence, yet collecting it still means imaging the entire phone or shipping devices for kit-based field work.
Targeted Pro: only what matters, not the whole phone. Custodians do not want their entire phone imaged, with every photo, health record and private conversation swept into a matter. The relevant evidence is often one or a few conversations, yet getting it has usually meant imaging the whole device. With Targeted Pro, the legal team sets the date range and data types. The custodian then confirms the specific relevant conversations on their own computer, and only those, plus any other categories the legal team requested, are delivered. Nothing else from the phone is sent.
Remote Signal collection. Signal keeps its messages out of ordinary phone backups, so legal teams have often relied on screenshots or an in-person forensic exam. MARA collects Signal messages remotely, with no phone shipped and no examiner on site. The custodian runs MARA on their own Windows or Mac computer, and the collection is limited to the conversations and date range the legal team set.
How MARA works:
– Remote by design. The legal team sends an invitation from the MARA portal. The custodian downloads the MARA collection app for Windows or Mac, connects their phone and follows guided steps. There is no kit, no shipping and no site visit.
– Scope set by the legal team. The legal team defines the matter, data categories and date range; the custodian cannot widen or change them.
– Storage ready out of the box, or the client’s own. By default, collections go to MARA’s encrypted storage, with no setup and no cloud account needed. Teams that prefer their own cloud can instead deliver to their own Amazon S3 bucket or Azure Blob Storage account, in the region they choose.
– Verified delivery. Every upload is checked against its full-file SHA-256 hash before it is marked complete. Downloads are pinned to the verified version, and each collection comes with a Collection and Delivery Report.
– In person, too. When the phone is already in the office, Collect Now runs the same workflow on the team’s own computer, with the same verified package and report.
– Review included. MARA Review for Windows and Mac opens each collection locally, so evidence does not have to be hosted to be read, and the portal exports Targeted Pro collections to RSMF, Excel and XML.
“I spent years collecting phones as a detective and in Big Four forensics, and remote collection always meant compromises,” said Jeremy Horowitz, founder of MARA Forensics. “As far as we know, MARA is the only tool that can collect Signal messages remotely, and we do it scoped to exactly what the matter needs. We built MARA so the legal team sets the boundaries, the custodian keeps their privacy, and the client decides where the data lives, with proof at every step that what was collected is exactly what was delivered.”
MARA covers messages, calls, contacts and chat apps, including WhatsApp and Signal, on iPhone and Android, and the MARA Android app collects on the phone itself.
